Global Warming... More Contrary Evidence.

Another excellent report on the problems with the Greenhouse-Warming theory. It also reveals, the abusive treatment handed out to the scientific critics of the greenhouse theory. As noted in prior postings, there is a very real problem with the spreading of deserts, which creates localized droughts and heat-waves in regions adjacent to those deserts, but any "global warming" appears to be the product of averaging in those regional thermal peaks into the global data base, and is not necessarily the product of any greenhouse-gas emissions. Having done some computer climate modelling years ago, I can validate what Bill Gray says regarding the number-crunching. You can tweak the variables and inputs ever so slightly and come out with very large differences in what the model will predict for years down the line. And treaties like Kyoto, based as they are upon an anti-Western political application of the greenhouse theory -- basically being pushed along by anti-capitalist, pro-socialist agendas -- actually demands steps which are 180-degrees off of what is necessary to halt any real warming effects due to desert-expansion and drought. The Kyoto Treaty exempts all the dramatically-expanding populations of many nations like India, China and in Africa, which are currently tearing down forests to make grasslands, and tearing up grasslands to make deserts, with very damaging agricultural and animal-herding practices, thereby expanding the deserts and being the major cause of the desert-drought-heatwave effects which drive regional warming, and hence, "global" warming statistical averages. And all of that is assuming we aren't just observing a natural Earth variation caused by solar variation, or something related to the ocean's output of CO2, which is absolutely gigantic as compared to what us humans have done over the years. A very slight rise in world ocean temperatures would release an order of magnitude more CO2 than all of human industry and agriculture combined. In short, our knowledge on this issue is a tiny island within an ocean of ignorance. There are plenty of good reasons to use solar energy, be conservative with natural resources, and end pollution, but the claimed greenhouse warming is not one of them. J.D.

As evidence mounts that humans are causing dangerous changes in Earth's climate, a handful of skeptics are providing some serious blowback

IT SHOULD BE GLORIOUS TO BE BILL GRAY, professor emeritus. He is often called the World's Most Famous Hurricane Expert. He's the guy who, every year, predicts the number of hurricanes that will form during the coming tropical storm season. He works on a country road leading into the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, in the atmospheric science department of Colorado State University. He's mentored dozens of scientists. By rights, Bill Gray should be in deep clover, enjoying retirement, pausing only to collect the occasional lifetime achievement award.

He's a towering figure in his profession and in person. He's 6 feet 5 inches tall, handsome, with blue eyes and white hair combed straight back. He's still lanky, like the baseball player he used to be back at Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington in the 1940s. When he wears a suit, a dark shirt and tinted sunglasses, you can imagine him as a casino owner or a Hollywood mogul. In a room jammed with scientists, you'd probably notice him first.

He's loud. His laugh is gale force. His personality threatens to spill into the hallway and onto the chaparral. He can be very charming.

But he's also angry. He's outraged.

He recently had a public shouting match with one of his former students. It went on for 45 minutes.

He was supposed to debate another scientist at a weather conference, but the organizer found him to be too obstreperous, and disinvited him.

Much of his government funding has dried up. He has had to put his own money, more than $100,000, into keeping his research going. He feels intellectually abandoned. If none of his colleagues comes to his funeral, he says, that'll be evidence that he had the courage to say what they were afraid to admit.

Which is this: Global warming is a hoax.

"I am of the opinion that this is one of the greatest hoaxes ever perpetrated on the American people," he says when I visit him in his office on a sunny spring afternoon.

He has testified about this to the United States Senate. He has written magazine articles, given speeches, done everything he could to get the message out. His scientific position relies heavily on what is known as the Argument From Authority. He's the authority.

"I've been in meteorology over 50 years. I've worked damn hard, and I've been around. My feeling is some of us older guys who've been around have not been asked about this. It's sort of a baby boomer, yuppie thing."

Comments:
As you say, desertification is becoming a major problem, as is the melting of the Arctic tundra, which is clearly measurable and certainly not a product of an "anti-capitalist conspiracy." There is also the great concern of the melting of glaciers throughout the Himalaya. There are to my knowledge entire island nations that appear to be on the brink of being swallowed by the encroaching sea.

So, if it's not to be deemed "global," would you not say that an enormous amount of the earth is experiencing "regional" warming, to a disastrous end?
